Good help is hard to invent

Sometimes I think I’d like to have a staff. You know? Just the essential people, to report directly to me and do all the things I need staff-type people to do.
Like maybe I would have a dedicated, on-call eyebrow technician. Or perhaps someone, a chef of some sort, whose sole job it would be to […]

Appalachian Dreamin’

My dudes, I am super busy these days. I picked up a Little Lady job, working with sewing machines, and it keeps me off the streets at night. The laundry produced by two incontinent boys and two pretty clean adults keeps me off the streets in the day time. And one day, one day, this […]

Sew For Broke: 13 Ways To Repurpose Old Clothes

This Re-Nest post reminded me of the two giant Rubbermaid bins I have stored in my studio upstairs, stuffed to the gills with old clothes I refuse to donate because Dammit, I’m Going To Make a Quilt.

Overheard in my living room

Kids are funny.

Want to see me wrestle myself?
SU U U U PERBOY and the case of the missing REMOTE CONTROL!
Pow! I shoot you! Now I put you in Ikea.

Plaid is rad

Denyse Schmidt + teal + plaid = perfection.
I posted this picture on my Tumblr inspiration blog but it’s just so perfect I wanted to put it here, too. It makes me want to sew a big fat heavy winter quilt instead of the light and airy and delicate one I’ve been working on.
I also love […]

Made lately: just little things

It’s always just little things. I usually work on tiny easy knitting projects at night after the kids go to bed, while Iain and I watch television. They aren’t very taxing, complicated or big; on the plus side, they actually get finished.
But every now and then I can fit in some actual sewing machine time. […]

Acid autumn

I finished knitting myself a quick little neckwarmer the other week (I started it last winter). (This project should not have taken like eight months.)
The fun part about only dressing in solid colors (with the exception of an occasional plaid or stripe) is putting them together in eye-hurty ways.

Take THAT, gloomy skies! And THAT! POW!

Sew For Broke: JCasa patterns + tutorials all in one place

I was bookmarking each individual pattern, tutorial and freebie from Jennifer Casa’s JCasa handmade before I realized I should just bookmark the whole page and be done. There are so many things on here I want to make!

Wedding notes

OK! I am rested and refreshed, recovered from our wedding weekend and back to show you the handful of pictures I managed to get. I guess I depended a little too heavily on my dad/the professional photogs because when I reviewed the pictures on my camera, they’re all of the hotel and the end of […]
