Patch your jeans cutely

I don’t wear a lot of jeans shorts, so it makes more sense for me to mend my pants when they get holey knees.
I took a scrap of fabric, looks like maybe 4x6”? Ironed fusible interfacing to the back, pressed under a 1/4” turn on all four sides, and topstitched it to the knee.
The fabric is from Kimberly of the spotted elephant for our patchwork swap and it goes with pretty much everything I own. I love it — use a piece of something you love and you’ll be happy wearing your patched up pants.

Leaving me a comment, eh? Have I mentioned how gorgeous you look in that shirt/kilt/jumpsuit/riding ensemble?

Did you hand stitch the top or use a machine? I tried to use a machine to patch my daughter’s jeans last year and couldn’t figure out how to manuever inside the jean leg.

You are so good! I have a pair of jeans that have had a rip in the knee for like a year. I don’t know why I haven’t fixed it, they are one of my favorites…maybe I was thinking it looked tough, ya know? So my kids know who’s boss.

i always make more holes in my jeans when i try to patch them, at the seams of the patch. maybe i wait too long and the tear is too far gone and the material is thin and liable to tear?

I will have to crawl around on the floor and get holes in my pants. So cute!
I do this sometimes with the kids’ pants, but I have to hand sew them because the legs won’t fit on the sewing machine! I bet my pants would fit, huh?

There is a trick to doing this on the sewing machine!
Rectangles have four sides, yes? You can do two sides at a time if you’re careful with the fabric. Backtack at beginning and end. Then take the pants out and reposition them so you can do the other two sides.
